Research & INSPIRATION
The product in this video that inspired us is called the HoloLens. We wanted to corporate our idea around this product, because it is still in testing phase and hasn't been brought properly out yet. We didn't want to use the name HoloLens or make the product look bad in anyway. We also agreed that we liked watching films and other related media that had a moral to it. And we also wanted to include a moral in our film.
Morals
A moral is a message conveyed or a lesson to be learned from a story or event. The moral may be left to the hearer, reader or viewer to determine for themselves, or may be explicitly encapsulated in a maxim.
- Wikipedia Definition - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral
The most common Morals found in Fables (short stories) are:
Our Short film is based around technology and the advancement and how it is destroying peoples lives and relationships, with both friends and family. We wanted a message that would tell the audience to let go of technology and come back to the real world.

- Don't let anything turn you away from your purpose
- Be happy with what you have rather than envy what others have
- Using your knowledge can help you solve problems that seem impossible
- Treat others how you want to be treated
- Be proud of your beauty on the inside, not the outside

Virtual Reality
What is Virtual Reality?
Virtual reality (VR) typically refers to computer technologies that use software to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations that replicate a real environment (or create an imaginary setting), and simulate a user's physical presence in this environment, by enabling the user to interact with this space and any objects depicted therein using specialized display screens or projectors and other devices. - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_reality
History of Virtual Reality
1950
In 1950 the first reference to Virtual Reality came from Science Fiction. Stanley G. Weinbaum's short story "Pygmalions Spectacles" describes a goggle based system with holographic material of fiction experiences including smell and touch.

Above is an Experience Theatre that could use all senses to create virtual reality. The inventor of this was called Morton Heiling. The above image is the prototype of his vision machine called the Sensorama, which played multiple short films which the senses would be used to make it more realistic.
1990-2000
In 1991 Sega announced the Sega VR headset, for arcade games and the Mega drive console. It had used LCD screens in the glasses, stereo headphones and inertial sensors to track and react to the movements of the users head.

In 2013 Oculus developed a version of a Virtual Reality Headset called The Oculus Rift. However in 2014 Facebook bought the company for $2 billion.
Evolution of Technology in the last 50 - 100 years
Videos online show the world that technology is destroying the world. One video I was shown at school a year ago was made by someone called Prince Ea. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRl8EIhrQjQ
Watching this video wants to put my phone down for one day, and realise how the world is getting worse. He makes some good points in his video. The feedback he received was constructive.
Our chosen genre
We weren't sure what we wanted to do at the start of the production. So we began on agreeing with a genre. We choose Sci-Fi as no other group was doing it. And we thought that ours would stand out.
Genre: Sci-fi
Theme: Technology advancing at a pace that it is destroying the world Character: Noah Plot: Buys some glasses, has a better life with them on. No negativity. Goes to parties ETC... one of the lenses breaks, and realises that the world is being destroyed and no one is doing nothing about it. Takes them off puts them down to save the world. then lens flickers back on to show that technology will never give up |
Role & responsibilities
My Role in this 5 minute film project was Producer.
Production Day 1
Today we were split into our groups for our end of unit 1,2,3 5 minute genre film. In our group we discussed our roles throughout this project. We then discussed ideas on our film that we were creating. Sam then took notes that we could have as a reference, to have on our blogs.
PRODUCTION DAY 2
We decided to have a meeting in the cinema room, as we were stuck with what to do next. We used the big screen to load up our script and other work, so we could break down what was needed to accomplish next.
We had an idea for where we wanted to film the street scenes. So we chose West Walls. We were stuck with ideas for where to film the house / apartment scenes.
Production day 3
Today we were supposed to film the west wall scene at 9. But our actor/director was late. He arrived at 11 and we were planning to film a seperate scene in the afternoon in the black box room. We couldn't really do much as he wasn't here. At 11 half the team had already left to begin pre shooting at west wall, while we waited for our director to turn up. When we all arrived we began filming. It went ok, but not the best as we werent prepared.
Production day 4
Today we scheduled to edit our west wall scene in the Morning and film the party scene in the afternoon. But we had to switch these around as the Black Box studio was being used in the afternoon by the Lvl 2 Media. Our original idea was that we did it in the afternoon, because we needed alot of extras, and we use the other groups in that day, but they were filming in the morning.
However they all came back from filming at break which was good for our team because we could still film two scenes that day. Here are some images from the West Wall Set:

I think today turned out pretty productive for the team and we also got some nice camera shots.
Production day 5
Once again our actor / director let our whole team down. We were all supposed to meet up at 10, but he came in at 3 in the afternoon. So me, grant and luke decided to go out and film the timelapses that the director was "supposed to film".
production day 6
As the deadline was approaching I decided to cut the 5 min film idea. Our tutor ed told us that we should just evaluate what went wrong, and what we could do to improve it. However later that day, I had an idea, which could be used in a future project possibly. We could make an advertisement for the Virtual glasses. Which could be played on a TV. So i made a timetable of when we had to meet by and what needed doing at that certain point. We aimed to finish filming by Lunch (12.00pm).
As producer, my role is to keep everyone on task, but at this point i think we were abit lost. So i called for a team meeting. We decided that we could use some of the clips that we filmed the previous dats (Party scene and west wall). So half the group went to edit the clips that we already had, and the other half went to plan what else we needed to film. In the afternoon of day 6 we went to west wall again to film, but it was different this time because we set deadlines and knew what needed doing. I think this went better because we were communicating effectivley and got some good shots in the end.
production day 7
Today we filmed the scene where grant talks to the camera, pretending to be the presenter. We also recorded the audio that overlays the video. We recorded the audio at the presenter at the same time to save time and effort. We then began Filming the scenes where you see him speak. As we wanted to get this finished on time, me, Brad and Grant decided to work on the project over lunch. We then finished all the filming for the project. And began to edit our final cut. While editing we decied to create a group edit as it would be quicker. But our Director wanted to make his own version so we let him. While the other 4 were editing, I went off to research on Colour Grading and what colours we wanted to use to represent dull and happy.

evaluation
At the start of the project, my whole team was unsure what we were going to do. We had a multiple meetings and we figured out what our idea was. We then were going to go ahead with that idea and stick with it. But it changed last minute. This happened because we weren't working as a team together and weren't communication effectivley.I think if we worked as a team and communicated, it would of worked better.
Our assigned roles each were:
Tom: Producer
Curt: Director
Brad: D.O.P
Luke: Assistant Producer
Sam: Sound
Grant: First Aidie

We had the opportunity to pick the groups ourselves, but our group in particular was the left overs. This was because the other people in the whole group, split themselves into 2 groups. And we were the only ones not in a group. I personally didnt think that wasnt going to work as a producer. But I turned out to be a pretty good producer in the end. My other team members said that I was also good at my role.
I also think that another factor that didn't work well was organisation. Within the first couple of days, I was worried because my team was lost what to-do, and we werent producing enough work, as the other groups were produciing. I think if we though of the idea earlier. It would've worked and if we knew what we were also doing.
